shrimp festivalResidents and visitors of San Carlos and Guaymas, Sonora enjoyed one of the many benefits of living on the shores of the Sea of Cortez this past Saturday.    Although the Sea of Cortez boasts 800 species of fish, the focus this weekend was on shrimp.  The shrimp industry is big business in this part of the world and seafood is a staple in the diet of locals.

This annual event was held at the Seascape Plaza and included over seventeen local restaurants that provided samples of their finest shrimp recipes.  This year’s festival included excellent music from a local band, many vendors selling Mexican crafts, and a visit from our new Mayor!  Local Photographer Greg Pyros was on hand to capture some of the culinary delights.

If you weren’t able to make the festival this year make sure you add it to your travel itinerary for 2010!
