The last new hotel that opened in San Carlos was the Hotel las Glorias, now Marina Terra, which debuted 25 years ago. Former Director of Sonora Tourism, and business promoter, Hugo Delgado negotiated the hotel deal 25 years ago, and he has brokered the latest hotel addition coming to San Carlos.
Design plans are currently underway with the architect, and a decision is pending as to whether the hotel will provide 120 or 150 rooms. Not only is this lodging option good news for visitors to San Carlos, it is also good for a future daily airline schedule to Guaymas. “Airlines consider hotel rooms as the wings of the airplane”, states Hugo. Airlines do not include condos or private rental homes when they consider their flight routes; they are only concerned with the number of available hotel rooms.
The new owner purchased the lot adjacent to the Marina Terra Hotel in September of 2017. They are currently entertaining international franchise opportunities and hope to begin construction in 10 months or so. Construction is expected to take one year.
Hugo continues to be the lead promoter and deal maker in San Carlos. There is not one single large scale project in San Carlos that he was not
a part of as the promoter and investment procurement specialist for town founder, Don Rafael Caballero.

Some of the projects and developments he and Mr. Caballero orchestrated over the past 45 years include:
- San Carlos Marina
- San Carlos Golf Course
- Canadian charter airlines from 1976-1982
- Tourist train from Nogales, Arizona to Guaymas
- Club Med
- Solimar
- Marina Terra Hotel
- Marina Real
- Bahia Delfine
- Los Arcos
Stay tuned for more updates as the project unfolds.
