San Carlos is considered one of the premier destinations in Sonora and for good reason. This beachside community is only 120 kilometers south of the State capital of Hermosillo and 390 kilometers south of the border with the United States. San Carlos is a mere 15 minute drive to Guaymas, a city noted for its’ shrimp and fishing industry and within a couple of hours you will find yourself in the architecturally and historically rich “pueblo magico” also known as Alamos.
What captures the attention of the first time visitor to San Carlos is the gorgeous scenery. The scenic corridor leads you into the center of our small community and the grand Tetakawi Mountain provides the background. The ocean breezes, blue ocean waters, rugged mountains, desert landscape, and relaxed atmosphere have most visitors returning on an annual basis.
San Carlos offers hotels for all budgets and restaurants so varied and interesting they please even the best traveled. From the traditional Mexican dishes of Carne Asada to goat cheese salad with pear and walnuts, to Sicilian Italian pasta dishes our local restaurateurs will not disappoint.
For golf lovers, an 18 hole Pete Dye designed course is awaiting your arrival as well as the beautiful ocean and mountain views that accompany you on the course. No need to bring your clubs as the clubhouse will provide those for you as well as an enjoyable lunch menu and drinks awaiting you at the 19th hole.
For those that prefer the open seas you will think you have arrived in Heaven…at least a slice of Sonoran Heaven. The San Carlos Marina and Marina Real offer the sort of quality services and amenities that world-class boaters respect. From these marinas you can moor your own boat or charter a captain and boat to take you fishing for Marlin or Sailfish, world-class scuba diving, or general sight seeing and snorkeling. The San Carlos Marina is home to many excellent restaurants, bars, and small boutique shops for gifts and souvenirs.
If more shopping is part of your holiday plans then the downtown center of San Carlos has many stores and galleries to choose from. There is no need to worry about what beachwear to bring because several stores provide these necessities for you. All variety of Mexican crafts and original artworks are available and in a price range to suit everyone’s requirements.
